School Counseling Services and Availability During School Shut-Down
The Glen Allen School Counseling team knows this is a time of high anxiety and uncertainty. With school being out for an extended period of time, there can be a lot of questions about where to get support, answers, and how to keep some semblance of normalcy. In an effort to continue offering support to students and families, our School Counseling Department wants to share how to access your School Counselor, stay connected, and receive information/updates from us.
School Counselors will be available by email Monday – Friday and will return all emails within 24 hours.
We will post resources to help provide guidance on how to manage stress, anxiety, and use coping skills as this situation develops.
Check this website and Schoology for resources and ideas for continuing career exploration, college readiness preparation, and additional instructions for various activities/tasks that would have been completed this month during the school day.
We are in the process of developing a method of reaching us by phone, should you need to contact us that way. We will be limited (practically and ethically) in the extent to which we can support students and families experiencing mental health crises, so please make sure to check out posted crisis and mental health services that are still available to our community.
We will continue to reassess the supports and connections we are able to provide our families. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us should you have any questions or concerns.
The Glen Allen High School Counseling Department’s mission aligns with that of the school: To develop 21st century citizens who can achieve their full potential as lifelong learners with a commitment to their community, state, and nation which will enable them to meet the challenges of change. As advocates, school counselors will assist students in achieving their full potential by providing a school counseling program focusing on the developmental needs of students in the realms of academic, personal/social, and career planning. In doing so, the school counseling program will collaborate with administration, faculty, staff, the community, and parents in an effort to educate and empower the student and parent to help develop a true lifelong learner and respected citizen.
